Online Web 2.0 - Professional Staff Development: 101 Web 2.0

Big Question: How do we make this meaningful to every individual participant?
June 11 - July 29 - End Date - Before Grades - Sept 18th

Guidelines:
  • Learning is to impact classroom instruction and not to distract from the educational process. Please refrain from participating during instructional times.
  • Audience will be a mixture of RRISD teachers, instructional coaches and administrators. Class size is limited to 21 participants with 3 facilitators.
  • Course Syllabus will be provided for participants but assignments will be given on a week by week basis.
  • The purpose of this course is to teach Web 2.0 skills and therefore are adaptable skills that transcend applications.
  • Web 2.0 is a term that was introduced in 2004 to describe a new generation of Web applications which provides dynamic user participation, social interaction and collaboration. In a nutshell, the next step of the www.

Goals:
  • Demostrate Best Practice use of Web 2.0 tools.
  • Create a real-world environment for teachers to learn the tools.
  • Focus on what is most useful for educators.
  • Teachers will become proficeint in and begin using Web 2.0 in their classrooms.
  • All of these tools use writing and would tie into Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum implementations.
  • Teachers will work in cadres to learn and continue to provide support to each other throughout the school year.
  • Level 2 Course could be offered exploring new tools.
  • Build a Community of Practice - Personal Learning Network

Audience - Mixture of Audience - Facilitators 1 per participants

  • Teachers who are already using technology on some level
  • Instructional Coaches
  • Instructional Technology Specialists
  • Administrators

Time Line:
  • Course would run from 7 weeks - The last week will occur several weeks later and will be a follow-up piece - What have you done with what you learned?
  • First Session: July - August
  • First Semester - Run two more sessions
  • Second Semester - Run two more sessions
  • Summer 09 - 10 or sooner?- Continue Part 1 - Implement Part 2??

At the end: How I will know that you are using these tools and that is has made an impact.

Set up established times to meet online to answer questions:
  • Tapped In - Hold once a week office hours rotate facilitators - Thursdays 7-9pm

How much credit?
I was thinking a full 2 days of credit (14 hours)


I just want it to be at least 14 hours for those trying to get comp time.
14 or 18 (3hrx6)- at least 14!

They will spend lots of time doing this. I was thinking 2 or 3 days. I fold, to two!
Is attendance given on a week by week
competition of each task?

Giving week by week allows to make adjustments for partial credit instead of all of nothing
How do other
mult hr courses do it? If week by week have to have a /6 for hours

upon completion makes sense, it gives us an opportunity to provide feedback while we're taking attendance.

at the completion of the course you get 2 days credit. 16 hours.
